St. Peregrine
Peregrine became known for his great devotion to the sick and poor. During a severe shortage of food God miraculously multiplied grain and wine through Peregrine. At the age of 60, he developed an infection in his leg and his condition became so severe that the physician decided to amputate his leg.The night before the operation, Peregrine prayed before an image of Christ crucified, and he had a vision of Jesus descending from the cross to touch his leg and the cancer disappeared. St. Peregrine is the Patron Saint of persons suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. His Feast Day is May 1.

As a youth St. Peregrine lived in defiance of the Church and was a member of an anti-papal faction during a time of great division. When St. Philip Benizi was sent to reconcile the divided community he was received with insults and was struck violently in the face by the 18-year-old Peregrine. When Philip offered the other cheek, the young man was shocked and repented. Phillip's kindness had a powerful effect on Peregrine, and asking St. Phillip told him to go to the cathedral to pray before an image of the Blessed Mother. There he had a vision of Mary holding in her hands a religious habit, instructing him to travel to the city of Sienna. There he was clothed in the Servite religious habit by St. Philip Benizi himself
